What To Expect At Our ACTAcademy UK West End Week 2019

It's safe to say that everybody enjoys being entertained. We live in a world full of exciting TV shows, glamorous movies, we read books and transport ourselves to other worlds, and we go to the theatre to watch people sing and dance and entertain us for an evening.

For some people, watching from the audience just isn't enough and they feel the NEED to be up on that stage performing; to be on that TV screen acting their heart out. And that is what ACTAcademy UK's West End Week is for. We are here for the performers and entertainers of tomorrow!

It doesn't matter how old you are, everybody can be a performer. That's why our West End Week is open to kids as young as 5-years-old to teenagers as old as 18, preparing to head off to drama school.

Over the course of the week, all students will be split up into groups based on their age ranges. This ensures that all activities, rehearsals and workshops are age appropriate.

We will be learning choreography and songs from the West End's most popular shows, such as Matilda, Wicked, Les Miserables, 9 to 5, Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton and so much more!!

Students will have a chance to work as a team to produce show-stopping ensemble pieces, as well as stepping forward to perform their own solos if they so wish. But training doesn't stop there. We will be developing skills in movie-making, music-making, creating our own artistic pieces, improving our confidence through improvisation, making new friends through games and team-building exercises, and embarking on no-pressure audition-style workshops to get a taster for the performing industry and what it entails.

So What Can The Teens Expect?

For our teenage students, they will get a chance to have one-to-one training on solo pieces to give them a head start with preparing for future auditions and potentially a career in the industry. All of our tutors have trained at top conservatoires in the performing arts and are highly experienced in training the next generation and preparing them for a career in the arts.

Just some of the teenage workshops include learning real Choreography from West End Shows, Singing-Technique Lessons, Devising Workshops, Creative-Writing, Film & TV Training, Ensemble Singing, and Audition-Preparation classes.

Plus you will have your headshot taken, which you will be able to use for any future casting opportunities or auditions you may wish to undertake. This week is a time to ask your tutors for advice and tips on anything you would like to know, from drama school to the industry, to getting an agent and open auditions.

What Can My Younger Child Expect?

Everything is very similar for the younger students on West End Week. They will take part in singing, dancing and drama workshops, along with creating their own music video and many more activities such as circus training and music-making. And don't worry, they will have their headshot taken too!

The only difference for the younger students is that everything is more games-based and interactive. We work on developing confidence and expression in ALL of our students through a range of activities. They will receive the same training from the same tutors and enjoy a huge range of creative workshops.

On the Friday at 3pm we will present a West End Showcase at our ACTAcademy Studios. This will include a selection of pieces that all students have been working on throughout the week, including solos and ensemble numbers. This is a really special and exciting opportunity for students to showcase their talents and their hard-work, and for parents to see what we've been up to all week.
