All ACTAcademy Stage School Pupils undertake core training after school or on weekends in weekly performing arts workshops. Students take part in so many exciting performance projects for stage and screen, developing their skills through an unrivalled, enriching arts curriculum.
We are proud to be the junior theatre training department at Northern Performance Academy. We have our very own training centre in central Harrogate. Because we are not a 'pop-up' stage school, or a franchise, we have so many more opportunities for masterclasses, pupil progression, hosting auditions and rehearsals as well as performing right here in our own on-site theatres too, so much more happens when you train at ACTAcademy UK!
Our arts curriculum offers so much more than drama and musical theatre. Our outstanding curriculum ensures children experience many additional subject areas, such as TV/Film, directing, theatre-making, improvisation, script-writing, choreography, composition, musicality, and stage combat, to name a few.
ACTAcademy is a family, where pupils make friends for life and priceless memories are created. A childhood spent being part of ACTAcademy weekly workshops is what dreams are made of - and who knows where this exciting journey ends for your child!
Why Performing Arts? (Drama, dance and singing)
The industry term for a performer with skills in drama/acting, voice/singing and dance/movement is a triple threat performer. This means they have a multitude of different performance skills, techniques and industry knowledge, which means they are a valuable asset to any team.
This is the reason we advocate that all young people should have a wide variety of skills and knowledge across the industry as a whole. If your child only takes dance, they don't always develop the ability to push emotion or include facial expressions in dances, drama is the foundation of confident expression and even singers need to engage an audience with a story and performance underpinned by good acting technique.
Training in all the Creative and Performing Arts gives children the maximum opportunity to fulfil their potential and the maximum possibilities for future success.
Does My Child Perform?
All our students have the chance to perform throughout the year and performing work is a regular part of our curriculum in workshop time too. Performances to an outside audience are a really exciting part of our calendar and a chance to put our developing skills into action to receive the reward of applause!
We are incredibly lucky to have 2 theatre performance spaces on site. We have The Volt Studio Theatre, which is a 70 seat black box theatre and our 200 seat Grand Hall Theatre. we also use external venues such as the Odeon Cinema and Royal Hall for larger productions and film premieres.
Does My Child Take Examinations?
At Stage 1 we have our ACTAcademy Awards Scheme, which helps our youngest performers feel a sense of reward and motivation. At Stage 2, from age 8 plus, pupils take group LAMDA, RSL or TRINITY examinations and work their way through the grades in Acting, Musical Theatre or Devising Drama. These are recognised qualifications and at the highest grades also carry UCAS points for university applications, so they are a fantastic option - entry fees are included in tuition fees.
ACTAcademy Tuition Fees
Tuition fees are calculated pro rata and split across the year to make one equal monthly payment of £68 per calendar month. They cover membership fees, tuition and examination fees. Upon joining, you will also pay a registration fee of £22 which includes your uniform T-Shirt and ACTA Awards Booklet.
