What's In Store At Our 2020 West End Week Summer School In Harrogate

Updated: Jun 23, 2020

After the fantastic success of last year, our West End Week summer school is back for 2020!

There was a time when we wondered whether we would be able to go ahead with our summer offerings due to Covid-19, but we are happy to announce that we are now able to open our bookings for our amazing summer schools in Harrogate (with safety precautions in place, of course).

Class sizes will be strictly limited to the government's educational standards and all workshops will be held in our private Harrogate studios. Read our blog post all about how we are making our summer schools safe for your children here.

But for now, let's talk about the fun stuff!

Attendees at our West End Week summer school in Harrogate can expect 5 days full of singing, dancing, drama and fun!

Our West End Week runs like a 'week in the life of a drama school'. This means that every day will be full to the brim with classes and workshops exploring new skills and new material from the West End's most popular shows!

Every morning begins with a group pow-wow all together and a warm-up and stretch to prepare us for an energetic day ahead. Each day includes workshops in drama and musical theatre, along with workshops learning exciting new skills, and industry skills and knowledge for the older students. We will even be adding in some Film & TV Training into the mix this year too!

If the weather is nice then we try to get outside for our workshops and we also love to take our lunch break out on the Harrogate Stray.

We give students plenty of time to take breaks throughout the day, and our infamous tuck shop will be open for students to purchase sweet treats and snacks during their tuck shop breaks.

All students will have their professional headshots taken at the start of the week which acts as a lovely keepsake for your child to remind them of their time at performing arts camp.

Drama classes at ACTAcademy aren't just about learning and reciting lines.

We don't believe that teaching someone how to repeat some lines verbatim is the way to develop and nurture an actor. We like to give students the opportunity to develop as an artist. We practice and exercise expression, imagination, creativity, improvisation, confidence and clear communication in all of our drama classes. We aspire to train well-rounded performers for the stage and confident young people for the real world.

We will be hosting even more joyful musical theatre classes within our studios, exploring new material from the West End's shows.

If you came to our West End Week summer school in Harrogate last year, don't assume that you're going to have an easy ride because we will be learning new songs and routines for you to sink your teeth into!

London's West End has so many brilliant shows across its many stages, and while the lights of theatreland may be dimmed at the moment with the Covid-19 pandemic, the lights are certainly not dim here in our performing studios.

This year, students can look forward to learning material from West End shows such as &Juliet, Six, Mary Poppins, The Phantom of the Opera, 9 to 5, The Prince of Egypt, Cats, and Hairspray to name a few.

Our musical theatre classes are a mixture of singing and dancing so rest assured your young performer is getting the full triple-threat training at our ACTAcademy West End Week!

While there will be no end-of-week showcase this year, due to the ongoing situation with Covid-19, students will still get the opportunity to perform.

Students will continuously be encouraged to perform within classes as they learn and showcase their skills to one another and their teacher every day. Plus we have an in-house studio theatre that students will be able to have their turn performing on throughout the week so they feel the buzz of standing on a stage.

There is no performance pressure at our ACTAcademy West End Week so students will be able to nurture their developing skills and support each other comfortably in their classes without the worry of performing at the end of the week.

We are so proud of the amazing work and experiences that come out of our Harrogate stage school every day and our West End Week is a fabulous way to celebrate our love for the performing arts with the next generation of performers and theatre lovers!

Our West End Week 2020 is already half full so if your child would like to enjoy a week in the life of our ACTAcademy stage school this summer then book your place as soon as possible. You can book your place online through our Summer School booking platform here. If you have any questions, feel free to drop us an email at info@actacademy.co.uk
