Here at ACTAcademy we champion the arts for not only the performance
skills you learn but also the skills for life that you can take with you
along your journey. Whether your child is the next West End or Hollywood
star or simply loves their ACTAcademy classes as a fun hobby, we believe
that every child who attends ACTAcademy benefits from a rich set of life
skills that reach far beyond the stage, and we’re not the only ones to
think it!
There is a breadth of research highlighting the benefits of
performing arts on life skills such as: literacy and numeracy,
self-reflection, problem solving, confidence and so much more.
Standing in front of an audience and speaking clearly and confidently is
something I’m sure many adults can identify as being quite daunting and
scary! Through the process of rehearsing and regularly performing in
these environments, the children learn to trust themselves and their
abilities. This kind of confidence spills over into all aspects of life.
Whether it’s an audition, work presentation or interview, we are
confident that out ACTAcademy students have the right skills to conquer
these fearlessly.
Working largely in group scenarios, the children learn a vast variety of
social skills. They learn to solve problems amongst themselves,
communicate appropriately and effectively, manage conflicts and enjoy
the comradery of achieving something as a team. Putting the
responsibility back onto the children to try and solve their own
problems is something we are really passionate about. Often in the
school day there is little time to allow children to go through a full
process of attempting to fix their own problems and instead they are
often given the solution. Through navigating this process themselves,
the children learn skills such as compromising and accepting when things
aren’t quite working. They discover that failure is not a bad thing and
instead a stepping stone on the journey to success. This helps to build
their resilience and encourages a growth mindset. Learning to cope and
adapt to setbacks can be really challenging which is exactly why we
embed this mindset into our curriculum right from the beginning so that
by the time our students are adults they are very used to failing and
can deal with this in a really positive way. These again are skills they
can take with them wherever their journey leads them.
The performing arts can also be a great means of learning discipline and
focus. Weekly classes accompanied by shows and rehearsal periods require
commitment. Children begin to understand the value of dedication and
hard work, the importance of being prepared and the benefits that come
with working hard. These encourage life long habits that will support
their academic learning and their future careers.
Performing arts are not just for future actors, dancers or singers-
performing arts are for everyone. We provide a fun creative outlet and a
powerful toolkit of life skills and take immense pride in knowing that
when our ACTAcademy students are all grown up, when they spread their
wings and fly, that they will be more than capable of managing whatever
life throws at them.
