Are You Booked Onto Our Summer Schools?
GREAT! You're in the right place to find out more! Here we give you all the information you will need before you attend an ACTAcademy Summer Camp, so you know what to wear, what to bring and what to expect! We are here to meet your child's individual needs, so if there is anything that will help us make the experience better, or more accessible, just let the camp leaders know.
We've been running holiday clubs for over 20 years in Harrogate! We know the holidays can be long and sometimes boring for children, not to mention exhausting and hard work for parents - so, never fear ACTAcademy is here!
We want to give you a place to develop new skills, a space to build confidence and great teachers who will inspire, motivate and encourage your child to be their unique, innately creative self. Expect art and design, drama, music-making, streetdance, singing, sports, outdoor games, baking, experiments, treasure hunts, exciting themed activities and fun, fun, fun!
Ultimately, we want your child to have a summer full of awesome memories, being creative, with like-minded new friends.
Don’t worry if you’ve never been before, we will make you feel super welcome and by the end of the first day you’ll be well into the swing of things and feel part of the ACTAcademy Family!
WHAT TO BRING TO SUMMER SCHOOL
Please make sure you bring the following items with you each day to Summer School:
1) Clean shoes/trainers/jazz shoes, suitable for indoor studio work
(DO not wear these outside, bring in a bag and change in the changing area)
2) Outdoor footwear should be worn to enter the building
3) Sun Cream
(Ideally, apply a once-a-day sun cream in the morning)
4) A Coat
(Even if it's sunny when you arrive, it is the UK - so you never know!)
5) A Healthy Packed Lunch in an easy to carry bag
(We hope to walk to the field for lunch each day, so a backpack is ideal)
6) A Named Water Bottle
(Fresh Water is available to refill all day)
7) Tuck Shop Money
(If you've attended before, you'll remember the fun of tuck shop at break time. It's truly a highlight for children at Summer Camps. Please bring 50p-£1 to visit the tuck-shop, which opens once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Items are 50p each and include a range of items from flapjack, to fruit, sweet treats and savoury snacks. Fruit Shoots and fruit juice cartons are also available to buy. )

FURTHER INFORMATION
Where Do I Drop Off & Pick Up?
You can find us right at the end of Anchor Road, HG1 4TA. If you drive down Anchor Road, follow it round to the right and look for the name of our building: Northern Performance Academy. Our brand-new, purpose built facilities, with 2 theatres on-site, 4 dance studios, 4 drama studios and a media room!.
There is a car park on-site, however it will be busy at start and end times so we do recommend walking, cycling or parking on a nearby street and walking up to the main doors for pick up and drop off to avoid the bottleneck effect as Anchor Road is a cul-de-sac. Doors will open at 9.10am each day.
Pick up is from the main doors too. We will need to sign your child in and out, so do bear with us. Camps finish at 3.15pm and the doors will open from 3.10pm for pick up.
Who Will Meet Me?
One of our Summer School Directors will be on the main doors and you will be greeted, registered and taken to the cloakroom area, so you can change into your indoor shoes and pop your things on a peg and packed lunch in the right place. You will then be allocated your Summer Camp Team Leader and Assistants, who will be taking care of your group and be your first port of call if you need anything at all throughout the week.
What Will the Days Look Like?
There is a clear routine to our days on summer camps. We meet each morning in our Team Pow-Wow Time, which is where we plan to enrich our growth mind-set with fun challenges and reflections as a group. We then head off into Activity Time, using different rooms and studios to participate in a wide variety of activities related to our theme in Creative Camps - or our showcase, if you are doing a West End Week Camp. We break for lunch at 12.30 and usually if the weather is good we walk round to the stray, just a few minutes from our school, to have our packed lunches and some outdoor time on the big field.
Afternoons are spent on our themed timetable, once again rotating around in our group to different studios for different activities. We always finish with Closing Circle, where we recap our day and reflect, finishing with a moment of mindfulness, yoga or team games.
At the end of each week, we have a Celebration Ceremony where we acknowledge your child’s achievements and award our Summer School Certificates. If your camp results in a show (West End Week Camp) the details of this will be given to you on the Monday when you first attend, but for your diary, the showcase will be on the Friday, usually at 3pm.
What Do I Wear?
Wear something with lots of stretch and something you feel super comfortable in. Joggers, T-shirts, hoodies, shorts or leggings work really well. Jeans, tights, skirts and tight-fitting material doesn’t work so well! Layers are best.
Please bring some suitable indoor shoes; jazz shoes, plimsolls/pumps or cleaned down trainers. We don’t allow outdoor shoes past a certain point in our studios, so you will need to bring some suitable shoes for inside.
Before and After School Club
If you have already booked on to our wraparound care, that’s great, we will be expecting you to be early from 8.15am or late pick up at After School Club from 3.15pm - 4.15pm. If you didn’t book in, but want to add wraparound, there is still time, but we need to know before Monday. Its £30 for the full week for Breakfast Club and £30 for the full week for After School Club. We don’t offer ad-hoc days. Please email info@actacademy.co.uk or call the duty mobile number or 01423 819207 to book in.
Emergency Contact Details
When you registered for your child’s place on Summer Camp, you provided contact details in an emergency. If anything has changed do let us know immediately.
All our Summer Camp Directors are Paediatric First Aid Trained. Our in-emergency contact number if you can’t get hold of anyone in the school office will be: 07411057662
Lastly, if you have any other queries, we are all here to help during the week, on email info@actacademy.co.uk or if you want to call the school main office on 01423 819207 we can direct you to the right person for your query.
