LAMDA EXAMINATIONS

If examinations are something you are particularly interested in your child doing, you'll be delighted to know that we offer group examinations from the London Academy of Dramatic Art (LAMDA) syllabus. LAMDA Speech and Drama exams also carry UCAS points at the higher grades, just like graded music exams.

LAMDA is one of the UK’s oldest and most respected awarding organisations. LAMDA have been offering practical examinations in communication and performance subjects for over 130 years.

ACTAcademy is a registered LAMDA examination centre with a 100% pass rate, managed by a professionally registered LAMDA Tutor.  Our team of examination  tutors have been teaching these grades for decades!

The tuition, direction, guidance and rehearsal in preparation for these group examinations is all covered in our Triple Threat Training workshops.

SUBJECTS AND GRADES

An external LAMDA Examiner visits ACTAcademy UK  to assess the pupils and they perform their prepared recital, or performance piece, followed by a formal interview for higher grades, and they then receive expert feedback and an overall grade.

All LAMDA grades are recognised, industry-respected qualifications. As students progress through the school, they cover various subjects and levels:

It really is an investment in a pupil's future and at the higher Grades 6,7 and 8 the solo examinations also carry valuable UCAS points, which count as credit for university applications.

ACTAcademy UK CLASS REWARDS

At ACTAcademy we also give your child the chance to feel specially rewarded for their hard work, perseverance, personal leaps in classes, professional attitude and behaviour. As part of our Celebrating Personal Achievement Policy, we give out stickers and medals at Stage 1 and trophies at the higher stages for outstanding effort. Students are also featured on our Star of the Week Board in school, and we also give tutor's feedback and comments on a Very Important Pupil (V.I.P) Comment Card.

BTTA AWARDS

The British Theatre Training Awards Scheme is in the pilot phase for 2023 and those in the ACTAcademy  Gifted and Talented Squads will be among the first to trial the qualifications. The Awards are simple to understand, clear in their objectives and can be achieved at a pupil's own pace.

HEALTHY COMPETITION

At ACTAcademy we are a very inclusive and nurturing school, and we work INCREDIBLY hard to acknowledge every individuals progress and development. This development only happens when students are motivated, encouraged, supported and given direction, corrections and consistently high expectations to meet. We also believe that pupils need a benchmark of success, that gives them the inspiration to keep working, even when the going gets tough!

At ACTAcademy we are not averse to a bit of healthy competition and there are some competitive elements to our training and performing opportunities. It is an inevitable part of life, as well as the entertainment industry. Competition teaches resilience, good sportsmanship and raises aspirations in our pupils.

Once in Upper School at ACTAcademy (Stage 3 +) the competitive opportunities reach higher levels. Of course, we know that there are always feelings of disappointment if  recognition you feel you deserve isn't given; but there can only be one first place in the real world of performance, there is only one job (and thousands who work just as hard and want it just as badly as you.) Our motto with the students is:  'Sometimes You Win, Sometimes You Learn' - and the ability to get back up after being knocked back is essential to success in life - that magic word we want to help build in our children is: RESILIENCE.

We teach our students that other people's successes are NOT their failures. Pupils learn to praise others' efforts and achievements; team work is valued whilst being able to confidently acknowledge and celebrate individual excellence in themselves and others.
